In the world we live in music, television, radio, and every media outlet in between has a direct impact upon the lives of those that are entertained by these things. Often times celebrities and other leaders that are in the public view are challenged with choosing to positively make a difference in the lives of those they touch. As a recording artist, I myself have been on both sides of the fence. Several years ago before I gave my life and heart to Jesus Christ I once made secular/gangster rap music. During that time in my life I never really thought about if the music that I made impacted my listeners in a positive way or helped them to have a better life. At that time all I wanted was for people to like my music, buy it, and have a good time. I was arrogant, prideful, and selfish. It wasn’t until I had a near death experience did I change my thinking and I began to think that it has to be more to life than this. Being near to dying helped me to see that with my life I needed to be doing something to help myself and others truly live out the purpose and calling that God has given us all. When I made the choice to truly start living for Jesus Christ everything changed for me for the better and that’s when I started making music that glorified God and had a positive message. That’s when I began to see my music directly changing lives and impacting my listeners in a positive way. Music is powerful and it can be used for good or evil. Even God’s word says that we have the power of life and death in our tongue; therefore, music has the power to give life to people that listen to it or take life away from people and cause death. Don’t get me wrong, music can’t make any human being do anything because we all have free will to choose to do good or evil; however, music does have the power to influence our choices to do good or evil. I am a parent of 3 children and I definitely want positive influences in the lives of my children. There are many adults as well as parents that personally want themselves and their children to be positively influenced by the music, television, radio, and other media outlets that they are exposed to on a daily basis. I’m thankful that my music now glorifies God, gives life, and positively influences all that hears it. Most importantly I am now trying to live that out in my daily life and I’m more conscience of my own thoughts and actions outside of making music and I’m trying my best to do the right things even when no human being is watching me but only God sees and knows me. I once read that a good reputation is what people are able to physically see you do and make up in their minds about the type of person you are. I also read that your character is who you really are when no one is looking at you and only you and God know who that person is. I don’t know about you but I know that I am personally striving to have a good character and a good reputation in the eyes of God. I saw this video on the Steve Harvey Show that touches on this subject. Here is the link I hope you all are blessed by this blog. Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts. Be blessed!!!!
